STAVROPOL. Nov 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Two servicemen of a Vladikavkaz border guard detachment were attacked by unidentified persons overnight to Tuesday, the press service of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Bandits managed to get hold of two assault rifles, 100 cartridges for them, and a radio," a press service official said. Both border guards received stab wounds in the attack. They were rushed to a military hospital. At the moment the soldiers are in satisfactory condition, and their lives are not in danger, he said.
Border guards and North Ossetian law-enforcers have organized a search for the attackers. Additional measures have been taken to rule out their escape from Russia, the official said. Military prosecution bodies have been informed about the incidents.
Earlier reports said that three border guards on duty in North Ossetia were wounded in the assault
The incident happened near the village of Verkhny Fiagdon at 1:50 a.m. Moscow time on Tuesday (2250 GMT on Monday), the Vladikavkaz detachment told Interfax.
According to preliminary data, three persons wearing masks assaulted the border guards.
They took away two assault rifles with ammunition and fled.
The incident occurred in the area of the Kurtata gorge from which mountain paths run to Ingushetia and Chechnya as well as South Ossetia and Georgia.
