Lukashenko dismisses Security Committee chief

MINSK. Nov 18 (Interfax-West) - Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko has dismissed Lieutenant General Leonid Yerin as chief of the country's State Security Committee (KGB), the presidential press service told Interfax.

Yerin remains within the KGB's ranks, and his future will be decided upon soon.

Yerin was appointed 1st deputy KGB chief in 1996, and presidential personal security service chief in 2000. He had been the KGB's chief since November 2000.
