MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has never delivered any weapons to Sudan, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko told journalists on Thursday.
Russia, as a UN Security Council permanent member, is committed to finding a political settlement to the crisis in Sudan, including its province of Darfur, Yakovenko said.
"As a follow-up to the UN Security Council's decision, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed an order on measures to enforce the UN Security Council's July 30, 2004 Resolution No. 1556," he said.
"The order bans all state-owned organizations, industrial enterprises, firms and private individuals under Russia's jurisdiction from selling or delivering weapons, ammunition and military hardware to all non-governmental organizations, including the Janjawid movement, which is active in the states of Northern Darfur, Southern Darfur and Western Darfur of the Republic of Sudan," Yakovenko said.
"This order has been adhered to in a strict manner. No violations of it have been reported," the spokesman said.
