STAVROPOL. Nov 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The Vesyoloye-Avtodorozhnoye checkpoint on the Abkhaz section of the Russian-Georgian border keeps operating in the daytime only, Sergei Livantsov, press service chief of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate, said on Friday.
"The Vesyoloye-Avtodorozhnoye checkpoint is only functioning from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Moscow time (0500 to 1500 GMT). Temporary limitations are related to unstable situation in the adjacent republic and to poor accommodation of the checkpoint, which is equipped as a temporary facility," Livantsov told Interfax-Military News Agency.
According to the Russian party, various extremist organizations, including terrorist grounds, could make use of the checkpoint's previous functioning mode in order to beef up tensions both in Abkhazia and in southern Russian close-to-border areas.
"The limitations will be in force until ordered otherwise. The regional directorate's command hopes for understanding among citizens," Livantsov said.
