TBILISI. Nov 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia is likely to abolish military departments of higher educational establishments in the near future.
"The Defense Ministry prepared a special bill that was unanimously approved today by the parliament's Defense and National Security Committee, which indicates that it is most likely to be adopted," a source in the Georgian parliament told Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.
According to him, the bill will amend the military service duty for students. For instance, after graduation they will have to obligatory undergo military service at the Defense Ministry Academy, National Guards or other higher educational establishments of the Defense Ministry, following which they will be qualified as reserve officers.
Those graduates who would not like become reserve officers, will still have to undergo military training at sergeants training colleges.
The graduates who will either refuse to undergo reserve officers training course or fail to enter the aforementioned institutions, will be enlisted for 12 month service as privates.
