Russian, Chinese aircraft radar designers to jointly develop active phased array radar

MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Chinese experts are expressing their interest in cooperating with Russian companies in order to develop active phased array radars, Yury Guskov, First Deputy Designer General of the Fazotron-NIIR Corporation, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"Chinese experts expressed their interest in active phased array radars at the air show in Zhuhai. Russian experts have necessary experience and scientific backlog in developing active phased array radars," Guskov said.

According to him, Chinese experts has mastered development of aircraft radars, and are not interested in slot array radars.

"At the present time Chinese experts are interested in developing phased array and active phased array aircraft radars. Thus, they would benefit from cooperation with Russian designers," he said.

Active phased arrays feature several thousand generating modules. According to experts, a single module of foreign active phased arrays costs about $1,200. At the same time Russian experts strive for reducing the cost of a module down to $500.

According to Guskov, the Chinese side will develop and submit to Russian designers proposals on cooperation in the sphere of developing active phased array radars in the near future.
