Russia to exhibit Grad, Smerch MLRS at Indonesian arms show

MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax-AVN) - The Rosoboronexport state-owned arms trader will exhibit the Grad and Smerch multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and many other armaments for the land forces at the INDO DEFENSE'2004 EXPO & FORUM, which will open in Indonesia on Wednesday.

"Being the top-of-the-line, Grad and Smerch systems are capable of destroying practically all types of today's ground targets with minimum consumption of rockets within the shortest period of time and at high accuracy," the Rosoboronexport press service reported on Monday.

Russian designers offer a variant of using multiple rocket systems in conjunction with Pchela-1 remotely piloted vehicles. They believe that this will allow a target to be detected and engaged in real time and standard combat performances will be greatly improved.

The land forces section includes a broad range of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and armored personnel carriers of all generations, landing-troop combat vehicles, armored recovery vehicles, multiple rocket systems, self-propelled artillery guns and howitzers, anti-tank rocket and anti-aircraft gun/missile systems, small arms and close-combat weapons. These are also tanks such as Т-90S, upgraded T-72M1 tank equipped with foreign-made fire control system and infrared sight, PT-76B light amphibious tank, BMP-3 and BMP-3F infantry fighting vehicles, BTR-90, BTR-80 and BTR-80А armored personnel carriers, 2S19 Msta-S 152-mm self-propelled howitzer, as well as Kornet-E and Metis-M1 antitank missile systems.

Experts may also obtain comprehensive information on a wide range of the Russian infantry fighting vehicles, including upgraded BMP-2 and BMP-3. The BMP-3F infantry combat vehicle is most attractive amphibious version of the well-known Russian BMP. Introduced designing modifications allow the infantry fighting vehicles to move in water and to easily move onto the shore/bank at water/sea swell of up to three points, to be afloat for seven hours with the engine operating and to conduct firing at preset accuracy at water/sea swell of up to two points. The upgraded PT-76B light amphibious tank has the same characteristics.

Since the state-of-the-art special weapons and equipment are in the center stage in the world to ensure internal security and counter-terrorism, Rosoboronexport will represent most competitive models of troop- and special-purpose small arms. Among the exhibits, most attractive are the Kashtan and Bizon-2 submachine-guns. Visitors will be as usually interested in such world famous models of highly effective small arms as Kalashnikov's assault rifles of upgraded versions АК-101, АК-102, АК-103 and АК-104 of 5.56mm and 7.62mm calibers, SVD and SVDS sniper rifles of Dragunov's system. The corporation's display will help visitors to acquaint with SPP-1М pistol and APS assault rifle to be used for underwater firing and characterized first of all by high penetration ability of cartridges, achieved due to original design of bullets and best ballistic solutions. This weapon may be also well used on land, while under water the fire may be performed from any position.
