MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen President Alu Alkhanov has neither confirmed nor denied rumors that negotiations are allegedly underway with separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov on his surrender.
"I am not ready to say today that such talks are being held with Maskhadov," Alkhanov told journalists in Moscow on Monday.
"I cannot comment on these rumors. If there is a dialogue, an official announcement to this effect should be made by the appropriate agencies and their heads," he said.
