MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The State Duma on Tuesday ratified the Protocol on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Mines, Booby-Traps and Other Devices with amendments made on May 3, 1996, in a 349 to 33 vote with three abstentions.
This protocol is a supplement to the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons that may be deemed to be excessively injurious or to have indiscriminate effects.
The deputies said the protocol in its new edition introduces a more rigorous regime for using anti-personnel mines, bans the use of mines that cannot be detected, as well as mines that can detonate under the impact of a mine-sweeping device.
