CIS defense ministers to consider new military aviation flight rules

MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The CIS Defense Ministers Council will consider the ordinance on military aviation flight rules in the CIS airspace at its next session in Moscow on Thursday, the CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The new ordinance will replace the Tashkent agreement passed in 1992. In the past 12 years, the CIS nations have developed their own air forces, adopted air codes and other regulatory documents. The new document was developed, taking into account all the changes in the CIS framework," a headquarters official said.

According to him, the new ordinance will regulate the order of submitting requests for aircraft flights over CIS nations, flight rules and arrangement of interaction between air traffic control bodies during such flights, as well as the order of investigating accidents involving foreign military aircraft.

"The document has been preliminarily cleared with proper military control bodies of the CIS nations and updated taking into account all remarks made," the official said.
