STAVROPOL. Nov 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Border guard units of the Russian Federal Security Service are ready to protect the state border in winter, Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Livantsov, press service chief of the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate, told Interfax-Military News Agency Tuesday.
"Many access roads to border guards outposts turn impassable in winter, thus forcing such outposts to operate without support of supply and reserve centers. Therefore, it is vital to ensure that they have everything to protect the border in their responsibility zones," he emphasized.
"The inspection of the border guards units in the North Caucasus proved them ready to protect the state border in winter," he said.
According to him, the units are 100% equipped with all materiel and supplies as of Tuesday, which means it was done ahead of the schedule.
He added that the restoration of the Nazran border guard compound damaged in the June terrorist attack in Ingushetia is nearing end. "We are to complete the work by December 20, but we are already ahead of the schedule," he said.
He also noted that the combat readiness would primarily depend on the freshmen to reinforce the units. According to him, it is most important to reduce the risks of freshmen falling ill, so that they could take up their duties right as they come to units. In this light, he said, the servicemen conscripted this autumn are being inoculated first of all.
