Defense Ministry working out NATO-Russia military-technical cooperation concept

MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The Defense Ministry has teamed up with the Federal Military-Technical Cooperation Service and other interested agencies to work out the military-technical cooperation concept in the NATO-Russia Council framework, Army General Alexei Moskovsky, deputy defense minister and chief of Armed Forces armaments, said on Tuesday.

"The concept of military-technical cooperation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance is based on decisions of the country's federal executive bodies made to sum up results of the NATO Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD). The event was held in Brussels in October in the format of 40 partner countries, including Russia, which took part in the forum for the first time," Moskovsky told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The conference coordinated and worked out common approaches of 40 countries to military-technical cooperation, primarily in the sphere of combating terrorism, he said.

According to Moskovsky, the NATO-Russia cooperation concept includes disposal of armament and military hardware subject to reduction, as well as upgrade and combat readiness maintenance of Russian- and Soviet-made armaments and military hardware in the inventory of NATO member countries.

"I must say that coordination of potential spheres of cooperation with NATO as a bloc will require serious expert examination, and that is why this country is actively involved in military-technical cooperation with NATO member nations on a bilateral basis," he said.

Moskovsky noted that the foundation of the military-technical cooperation concept with NATO will be outlined in a memorandum of cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance.

"The memorandum will be submitted for consideration of the State Duma in spring next year," he stressed.
