Russia, India to protect intellectual property in arms trade

NEW DELHI. Dec 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has announced that in two months, Russia and India will sign an agreement on the protection of intellectual property in the arms trade.

"At talks in New Delhi today, the Indian side voiced a readiness to complete talks and sign an agreement on the protection of intellectual property in military-technical cooperation within the next few months," Ivanov told the press on Wednesday.

The absence of such an agreement is hindering the expansion of bilateral arms cooperation, he said.

"India won't gain any significant benefits from signing the agreement with us, but Russia will feel much more confident on matters of the arms trade with India after it is concluded," he said.

"India is not only trying to acquire advanced technologies, but to develop modern products on the arms market for further sale to third countries. What may be a friendly country for India is not necessarily a friendly country for Russia," Ivanov said.
