Georgian, Russian border guards to work out cooperation plan for 2005

TBILISI. Dec 2 (Interfax-AVN) - High-ranking officials of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate and the Georgian Interior Ministry's border guard department will meet in the village of Kazbegi in mid-December to discuss cooperation prospects for 2005, Colonel Kornely Salia, the Georgian department's chief-of-staff, said on Thursday.

"We will agree on cooperation in protecting problematic northern sections of the Georgian border in the winter period and will develop the interaction plan for 2005," Salia told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"A similar plan for 2004 has been implemented by more than 90 percent, which contributed greatly to efficient border protection," he stressed.

"In particular, I am talking about establishment and maintenance of communication on the level of border pickets and checkpoints, as well as border reconnoitering," Salia noted.
