International anti-terror media forum being established in Moscow

MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax-AVN) - The permanent international media forum "Mass Media Against Terrorism and Drugs" is to be established in Moscow on Thursday under the auspices of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Alexander Orlov, CSTO press-secretary, told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"Today Moscow will host the constituent meeting, aimed at giving the international anti-terror media forum the status of a permanent forum, with the plenary session to be held at least once a year under the auspices of CSTO and with the assistance of the Russian Journalist Council, the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Association, and other international and public organizations," Orlov said.

He said that between sessions functions of the forum would be discharged by the Council for Information and Intellectual Resistance to Terrorism and Drugs.

"This council will comprise participants in the media forum on a voluntary basis, mass media representatives, and officials from public organizations of CSTO member-states," Orlov pointed out.

According to him, the major task of the Council will consist in increasing mass media inter-corporate and interstate cooperation in combating contemporary challenges, first and foremost, terrorism and drugs.

"We are shifting from theoretical reasoning that terrorism is the primary enemy for Russia and other CSTO member-states towards establishing a real mass media organization in order to increase informational resistance to terrorism and drugs," Orlov emphasized.

He also said that the participants in the forum would be addressed by CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, Russian Presidential Advisor Aslambek Aslakhanov, Chairman of the Russian Journalists Council Vsevolod Bogdanov, State Duma legislators, officials of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center, and other state and public officials.
