Georgian reservists to take part in regular army exercises

TBILISI. Dec 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Reservist battalions trained in Georgia will be involved in regular army exercises, Colonel Levan Nikoleishvili, deputy chief-of-staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, said on Thursday.

Nikoleishvili was speaking at the closing ceremony of the regular reservist battalion training session in the village of Sachkhere not far from the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone. The session was hosted by the Sachkhere-based motorized rifle battalion of the Georgian National Guard.

Defense Minister Giorgi Baramidze told the ceremony, "The reserve training program is progressing successfully in Georgia, and regions are setting up reservist battalions that will be able to defend Fatherland if necessary."

Georgia has trained seven reservist battalions numbering 320 to 350 people each since September.
