KRASNOYARSK. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The Zheleznogorsk-based applied mechanics research and production association in the Krasnoyarsk territory is planning to develop new navigation satellites together with Indian companies, Viktor Kosenko, the chief of the company's design bureau, told journalists in Krasnoyarsk on December 4.
"Russia and India concluded an agreement on joint development of the GLONASS global navigation satellite system the other day. Under the agreement, it is planned to launch our satellites onboard Indian rockets at the first phase. Later we will build new GLONASS-K satellites together," Kosenko said.
In addition, Russia and India are planning to develop cooperation in using navigation signals, which might involve the launch of two or three Russian navigation satellites onboard Indian rockets, he said.
"Joint development of space satellites will be a subject of further negotiations," Kosenko said.
Using GLONASS navigation signals will enable India to have more accurate navigation information in certain regions, Kosenko said.
