Interior Ministry Forces in northwestern Russia training for emergency operations

ST. PETERSBURG. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - The periodical training of commanding officers of the Russian Interior Ministry Forces units deployed in the northwest of the country will start Tuesday.

"The training is aimed to work out a single approach to law enforcement and security in periods of possible terrorist attacks, as well as to the organization of reservists training for emergency operations," the press service of the Interior Ministry Forces' Northwestern district told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.

On Tuesday, the base of the 33rd detached brigade headquartered in Lebyazhye, the Leningrad region, will see the demonstration of combat formation for law enforcement and defense of a military compound, a simulation of an attack against a check-point and the activities of reservists in case of mass riots in built-up areas. Servicemen will repel a simulated attack against an outpost in the Lembolovo training center in the vicinity of St. Petersburg Wednesday.

Lieutenant General Alexander Lvov, the Northwestern district commander, will execute command over the training, which will be attended by Lieutenant General Sergei Topchy, deputy commander of the Russian Interior Ministry Forces.

The training will end Wednesday in a meeting of the Northwestern district's military council that will sum up the results of 2004.
