MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia regards the continuation of political maneuvering around the enforcement of the adapted Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty as hopeless, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko told Russian media.
"Everyone has seen that the long lasting political maneuvers around CFE are hopeless and are only complicating the solution of remaining elements of the Istanbul understandings with Georgia and Moldova. It is illogical, to say the least, to pressure Russia by refusing to ratify the adapted CFE," he said.
Yakovenko said that on Thursday, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will attend ministerial meetings of the Russia-NATO Council and the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, a consultative body of 46 countries cooperating with NATO under the Partnership for Peace program.
"Unfortunately, ratification of the agreement on the adapted CFE, which is the material foundation of relations with NATO, remains an unresolved problem," Yakovenko said.
The process is being hindered by Russia's partners, who link it with issues that are not directly related to the adapted treaty, he said.
Russia-NATO cooperation seems to have stood the test of time, but "the negative feelings in our relations accompanying the recent NATO enlargement have not been fully overcome," he said.
