MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax-AVN) - As the situation in Abkhazia has normalized, the regular crossing of the Abkhaz section of the Georgian-Russian border by individuals has been resumed.
"In response to requests made by the Abkhaz leadership and the normalization of the situation there, a decision has been made that the usual crossing of the border by individuals shall be resumed," aide to the Russian prime minister Gennady Bukayev told Interfax.
Russia recently toughened the border regime in response to tensions that arose in Abkhazia following the presidential elections.
