Militant safehouse busted in Ingushetia

GROZNY. Dec 20 (Interfax-AVN) - The police have busted a guerilla safehouse in the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya in Ingushetia's Sunzhenskaya district, the Russian Interior Ministry's provisional press center in the North Caucasus reported on Monday.

"When the police were checking the house where bandits were staying, according to intelligence information, bandits offered stubborn armed resistance to the policemen," a press center official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Two rebels were killed in the engagement and one more managed to escape, the official said. Two police officers were wounded. Two Kalashnikov assault rifles with cartridges, an under-barrel grenade launchers with rounds, an optical sight, electric detonators, and a Kenwood radio were seized from the building.

The police detained a militant, born in 1982, in the Assinovskaya village in the same district of Ingushetia.

Several more operations aimed at detaining extremists and their associates have taken place in Chechnya. A local resident, born in 1975, was detained in the village of Bachi-Yurt in the Kurchaloi district. Law-enforcers established that he was a participant in the attack on the house of a policeman and the attempt on murdering the officer in May this year,

Two locals were detained in the Maitrup village in the Kurchaloi district. They used to transport militants on the Chechen territory.

Policemen examined 11,952 vehicles and 21,468 people on Sunday. They registered 44 crimes and detected 38 of them hot on the trail. In addition, 713 administrative violations were registered.
