Kurganmashzavod starts BMP-3 IFV deliveries to South Korea

KURGAN. Dec 22 (Interfax-AVN) - The Kurgan Engineering Plant (Kurganmashzavod) starts delivering BMP-3 IFVs to South Korea, Alexander Stratechuk, Kurganmashzavod Director for Special Materiel Sales and Foreign Economic Relations, told Interfax on Wednesday.

According to him, the first batch of 17 BMP-3 IFVs is to be shipped off in late December 2004, while the second batch of 20 armored vehicles is to be delivered to South Korea in February 2005.

The armor deliveries are carried out under the contract with Rosoboronexport.

Stratechuk also noted that the last batch of BMP-2 IFVs would be shipped off to Yemen in January 2005. Under the contract, Kurganmashzavod is to deliver a total of 188 IFVs of this type to Yemen.

He pointed out that in 2004 the plant had fulfilled all deliveries of spare parts for armor, being operated by foreign states, such as India, UAE, Cyprus, and Finland.

Kurganmashzavod is one of the world's largest IFV exporters, with its IFVs being in service with 28 foreign states. Its experts assisted in establishing licensed production of BMP-1 and BMP-2 IFVs in India and Slovakia.
