TBILISI. Dec 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia has completed its participation in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan and will no longer send its servicemen to that country, a source in the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"Fifty servicemen of the Georgian Defense Ministry's Sachkheri mountain rifle battalion returned home from Afghanistan on Wednesday, and no Georgian servicemen will be sent to replace them," the source said.
"For three months, Georgian servicemen accomplished missions pertaining to facilities protection, patrolling, and security maintenance, including in the framework of Afghan presidential elections, as part of the German national military contingent. Georgian servicemen's performance was highly evaluated by the international command," he said.
Georgia has been involved in the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo since 1999 and in Iraq since 2003.
