MOSCOW. Jan 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Abkhazia is deploying new firing ranges and proving grounds.
"The Defense Minister issued ordinance providing for new firing ranges, proving grounds and sports compounds to be installed by March 1," Major General Anatoly Zaitsev, the Deputy Defense Minister of the breakaway republic, told Interfax-Military News Agency over the telephone from Sukhumi Tuesday.
He emphasized that the new installations are being formed with the aim to ensure good training conditions for the Armed Forces.
Zaitsev refused to comment on the exact number of new military installations saying that this data is secret.
According to mass media, the Abkhaz active duty army is 5,000 personnel strong. Another 18,000 servicemen are in reserve ready to mobilize at once.
