Soldiers' mothers press for talks with Maskhadov's envoys

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The Union of Soldiers' Mothers Committees has not dropped its initiative to conduct peace talks with envoys of Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov.

The Union's earlier attempt to negotiate with Maskhadov's representatives in Belgium was thwarted by the Belgian side's refusal to grant soldiers' mothers entry visas.

"Talks will take place," Union leader Valentina Melnikova told reporters on Thursday.

"So far, it's unclear how we will arrange them, but we will think something up," she said.
