Russian Air Force planes to make at least 10 more flights to Southeast Asia

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Air Force will make at least 10 more flights to deliver humanitarian cargoes to Southeastern Asian nations stricken by last month's disastrous tsunami, Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhailov said on Thursday.

"We provide great aid to the Southeastern Asian nations in trouble by delivering various water purification equipment, foodstuffs, a military hospital, and a lot of other things. We have made 13 flights, and I think that more than 10 are yet to be made," Mikhailov told a news conference at the Interfax main office.

Six Air Force planes are making flights to Southeast Asia, he said. "This number is six, because intermediate airfields are unable to receive a higher number," he stressed.

"Everything is well-organized, aid is being provided and will continue going. We can make a much higher number of flights, because we have more than 100 IL-76 Candid planes with combat-ready crews at our disposal," Mikhailov noted.
