Georgian minister to discuss Abkhaz, S.Ossetian conflict settlement in Moscow

TBILISI. Jan 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian State Minister for Separatist Conflicts Giogri Khaindrava will come to Moscow in late January to discuss conflict settlement in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"I am going to hold a number of working meetings with various Russian officials to discuss conflict settlement, for which new ways should be applied," Khaindrava told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.

He added that a visit by representatives of the UN Security Council to the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone is on the agenda now. According to him, the initiative comes from Heidi Tagliavini, the UN Secretary General's special envoy for Abkhaz crisis management.

Khaindrava noted that first of all it is requisite to return refugees to Abkhazia to resume the railway communications in the republic.

"Until the refugees are returned to the Gali district of Abkhazia with its clear-cut regime of apartheid in force now, there are no ways of resuming the railway communications," he said.

He emphasized that Georgia and its neighbors are interested in resuming the railway communications, but not at the expense of refugees.
