MINSK. Jan 20 (Interfax-West) - Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko appointed Stepan Sukhorenko Chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) on Thursday, a source in the presidential press service told Interfax.
Lukashenko also appointed Vasily Dementei First Deputy Chairman of the State Security Committee and made Viktor Vegera Committee Deputy Chairman and head of the Committee's Main Department on Counter Intelligence.
Nikolai Svorob was appointed Committee Deputy Chairman and head of the Committee's Main Department on Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Measures. Alexei Yelfimov was appointed head of the Committee's Department on Military Counter Intelligence. Igor Kuznetsov was appointed head of the committee department in Minsk and the Minsk region, and Igor Bakhmatov was appointed head of the committee department in the Brest region.
Vladimir Poleshchuk will head the committee department in the Vitebsk region, and Igor Sergeyenko will head the committee department in the Grodno region.
Sergei Volkov was appointed head of the Committee's Main Department on Foreign Intelligence, and Viktor Rusak was appointed head of the Committee's Economic Security Department.
