Terror attack prevented in Chechnya

GROZNY. Jan 26 (Interfax-AVN) - A major terrorist attack targeting the local population was prevented in the village of Assinovskaya in Chechnya's Sunzhen district when law enforcement officers discovered and defused a landmine planted on one of the village's main streets, sources in the federal forces in the North Caucasus told Interfax on Wednesday.

A search for those who plotted the terrorist attack is underway.

Four people have been abducted in Chechnya over the past 24 hours, law enforcement sources told Interfax.

The kidnappings took place in the village of Belgatoi in Shali district, Argun and the village of Kharkovskoye in Shelkovskoi district, the sources said.
