Georgia interested in training air force specialists in Russia

TBILISI. Jan 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia is interested in training specialists for its Air Force in Russia, a high-ranking Air Force official said on Thursday.

The official was asked by Interfax-Military News Agency to comment on the statements made after the Wednesday talks between Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and chairman of the Russian Federation Council's international affairs committee Mikhail Margelov in Strasbourg.

"We are indeed interested in the training of pilots and specialists in technical servicing of aircraft in Russia, but we have yet to discuss it and find out how much it will be profitable as far as funding is concerned," the official said.

Margelov told reporters on Wednesday that Russia could train helicopterists for the Georgian army.

According to the Georgian official, the country currently trains it helicopters itself, as well as in the U.S. and Ukraine.

"Americans fund the training of Georgian pilots in the U.S. themselves," he said.
