Seven militants killed in Nalchik - official (Part 2)

NALCHIK. Jan 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Seven militants of the Yarmuk terrorist group, including its leader Muslim Atayev, were killed as a result of a special operation in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria's Security Council Secretary Oleg Shandirov told Interfax on Thursday.

"I can confirm that seven extremists, including their leader, were killed in a successful special operation by army and law enforcement units," he said.

There were several women among the dead, he said, "all of them were members of the group and offered resistance," Shandirov said.

Two law enforcement servicemen were slightly wounded during the operation, he said, adding that there were no civilian casualties.

The seven extremists were the lead unit of the Yarmuk terrorist group, Shandirov said.

"The operation was carried out without a hitch. All departments involved in it deserve praise, in particular the republic's interior ministry and security service," he said.

Shandirov said the situation in Nalchik and other districts is calm.
