Arms and ammo caches found in Chechnya, Ingushetia

KHANKALA. Jan 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Law-enforcers have found arms and ammo caches in Ingushetia's Nazran district and in the Chechen village of Shali, the Russian Interior Ministry's provisional press center in the North Caucasus said on Friday.

"The cache that was found in the Kantyshevo village in Ingushetia's Nazran district contained a grenade launcher, a machine-gun belt, five grenade launcher rounds, and about 300 cartridges," a press center official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

In addition, the cache contained 16 audio tapes, eight video tapes, 18 books in Arabic, a notebook with Wahhabi notes, and five maps of the North Caucasus.

"A 27-year-old resident of Verkhnie Achaluki in the Malogbek district was detained on suspicion of involvement in setting up the cache," the official said.

Another arms and ammo cache was found in a ruined house on the outskirts of Shali, he went on.

"Forty grenade launcher rounds, an assault rifle, and about 200 cartridges of various calibers were seized from the cache," the official said.

According to him, the cache was owned by warlord Abdullayev who is operating in the Vedeno district of Chechnya.
