MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian First Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Alexander Belousov said his country will not send a peacekeeping brigade to Iraq.
"There is no need for that," Belousov told journalists in Moscow on Friday.
"This brigade is equipped with airplanes, vehicles and special purpose equipment. It was trained to perform specific tasks," he said.
Belousov said that the 2,500-strong brigade, which is deployed in Samara in the Volga-Urals military district, had been set up to carry out peacekeeping operations in the CIS and non-CIS nations under a UN mandate, should this need arise.
