TBILISI. Jan 31 (Interfax-AVN) - A tank brigade of the Georgian Defense Ministry ended a planned exercise on Monday, a source in the Georgian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The exercise was held in Gori, 30 km from the town of Tskhinvali, which is the capital of the breakaway South Ossetian region.
"Tactical movement was practiced and live firing held in the framework of the exercise," the source said.
Colonel Levan Nikoleishvili, deputy chief-of-staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, told reporters that "the exercise was held on a high level."
According to the source, "the exercise demonstrated high readiness of the crews." He recalled that Georgian tankmen took special training courses last year in the framework of the Pentagon's Train and Equip program.
