BRATISLAVA. Feb 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President George W. Bush have instructed their respective governments to intensify cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
A joint fact sheet on the initiatives for the Russia-U.S. summit in Bratislava says the two presidents instructed the co-chairmen of the Russian-U.S. working group on combating terrorism to adjust its action plan to new terrorist threats and promote the implementation of this plan.
With terrorists more and more frequently using makeshift explosive devices, the two presidents instructed U.S. and Russian experts to exchange information in this field, as well.
They also gave instructions to take steps to ensure the safe storage of mobile anti-aircraft rocket systems or the scrapping of systems that have either became outdated or are excessive from the point of view of national defense needs. Their statement says an end needs to be brought to the illegal production and handover of such weapons in accordance with agreements on mobile anti-aircraft systems signed by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
