Georgia signs NATO transit agreement for Afghanistan flights

TBILISI. March 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer signed an agreement on NATO military transit through Georgia in Brussels on Wednesday.

Tbilisi will permit NATO to transport soldiers and military hardware to Afghanistan not only through its airspace, but also by sea and land, says a Thursday press release from the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

"With this document, Georgia is contributing to the fight against international terrorism," Zourabichvili told the Georgian press in Brussels.
