RYBINSK, Yaroslavl Region. March 4 (Interfax-AVN) -- The Saturn research and production association has signed a contract with the Tekhnopromexport state-owned company on manufacturing two GTE-110 gas-turbine electric power plants for the PGU-325 gas and steam unit which construction started at the Ivanovo hydroelectric power station on February 24.
"The contract is worth 1.3 billion Russian rubles ($47 million), its deadline being the end of next year," reads Saturn's press release received by Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.
According to the release, the project of the new power station in Ivanovo envisages the construction of two PGU-325 units with a total power of 701.7 MW.
"The construction of these units is the first stage of the project, within the framework of which this contract was signed. Each unit is based on the GTE-110 turbine developed by Saturn, which is the only Russian turbine powerful enough," the press service informs.
PGU-325 is not inferior to the best western rivals in terms of cost-effectiveness. It is likely to replace the obsolete turbines of the Unified Energy Systems (UES) of Russia in the near future.
UES will expectedly need 103 sets of such units for 20 thermal and heat power stations before 2015.
Saturn is one of the leading developers and manufacturers of gas-turbine equipment for use in aviation and industry. It mostly specializes in the development and manufacturing of air engines for commercial and combat aircraft, including for the fifth-generation fighter, as well as the development of gas-turbine units for Gazprom, UES and other consumers of power producing equipment.
