Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan confirm common approaches to resisting terrorism

BISHKEK. March 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are ready to resist international terrorism together, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf told reporters in Bishkek on Tuesday after his talks with Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev.

"Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan will be trying to strengthen and deepen both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The republics see eye to eye on international cooperation, cooperation and partnership in resisting terrorism and also in the framework of international organizations," he said.

Musharraf said the sides mulled the reform of the UN system. "It was decided to thoroughly study the issue through joint consultations so that the United Nations, its Security Council in particular, would better represent the interests of the international Muslim community," he said.

Speaking of bilateral cooperation he spoke of the need to develop trade and economic ties, strengthen contacts through simplifying visas regulations.

Pakistan is ready to offer its seaports, port Karachi and the new port of Gwadar, its transport communications for Kyrgyz businessmen to get access to international ports and world markets, he said.
